SUSTAINABILITY STATEMENT ISVW ESTATE
The unique location of our company ISVW makes a major contribution to the success of our company. In the middle of nature, on the beautiful Leusderhei, we have been receiving guests for more than 100 years. We hope that we can continue to do so for decades to come. It is very important to us and partly due to the nature of the business, the Corporate Social Responsibility status is high on our list.
We believe that this goes hand in hand with excellent hospitality. That is why we invest in facilities that make our hotel, restaurant and meeting rooms better and greener.
In our investments we pay attention to the environment and society. Sustainable entrepreneurship means for us that we maintain the impact of our activities on the environment and will have a positive influence on the people inside and outside our company.
MEDIUM
We have great respect for the environment. Landgoed ISVW actively participates in protecting the environment, in the following ways:
Lowering the awareness of our guests:
- We cater to the needs of our guests to work together for a better world. Our guests can also contribute during their stay by making choices.
- We prefer electronic communication (e-mail, quotes, invoices, digital smartboards).
- Guests can indicate with a card whether their new bed linen needs to be cared for.
- We are a partner of Hotels for Trees from July 2021, you can indicate that your room will temporarily not be cleaned in exchange for a tree. See https://hotelsfortrees.com/nl/resultaten/ which hotels participate and how many trees each hotel has made possible.
- Towels in the bathrooms are changed only at the guest's request: an information card is available in the room.
- We encourage our guests to use public transport by means of bicycle rental, charging points for electric cars, information about the public transport bicycle and line 19 from Amersfoort station with the bus stop on our own premises.
- We serve multiple organic/FairTrade products for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Ranging from tea and coffee, milk, toppings, bread, wine, cheeses and fruit juices.
- We also offer various seasonal products and some local products.
- There is always a diverse range of vegetarian dishes available at all meals.
Knowledge of our employees:
- In order to reduce the sense of responsibility for the environment of our employees, each employee receives various learning moments in the year about sustainability. It all starts at the beginning.
- By enabling work instructions.
- By continuously improving ourselves.
Awareness improving our quality:
- We aim to purchase sustainable products and services through active collaboration with responsible suppliers. We aim to help our suppliers reduce their negative impact (number of deliveries, less packaging materials, etc.). Most of our supplier has signed a sustainability declaration to contribute.
We strive to reduce our CO2 emissions by taking various measures:
- In order to monitor and control our emissions of substances, we perform a CO2 analysis. This involves collecting information, calculating greenhouse gas emissions and drawing up an action plan.
- We ask ourselves whether we can deliver as sustainably as possible.
- We prefer local suppliers whenever possible.
- We recommend our guests to use the bus service from Amersfoort station to ISVW (bus stop on site).
- We have approximately 180 solar panels for hot water supply and electricity generation.
- We are a partner in Climate Protection: we contribute to CO2 compensation through the ISVW program newspaper.
- Men can adopt a tree that we plant on our own property.
We also contribute to reducing the release of chemical substances by using:
- Environmentally certified paper (toilet paper, flipchart paper, placemats, letterheads and envelopes, hand towels, napkins, etc.).
- Biodegradable dishwashing detergents, hand soap, shampoo and shower gel.
Examples of our contribution to environmental conservation:
- In December 2018, we planted more than 100 trees and shrubs on our own property by organizing an 'adopt a tree campaign'. This campaign is still ongoing, and each year we add approximately 10-15 trees and shrubs.
- In 2021 and 2022 we planted 1000 young trees and hedges, which we ordered through Heg & Landschap, which is subsidized by the French Yves Rocher Foundation.
- At the beginning of 2023, we will start using solar panels to generate electricity.
- From August 2022, our kitchen will be gas-free.
- Beehives on our property.
- Hanging approximately 50 bird nesting boxes on our site in collaboration with the Philadelphia Foundation.
- There are various walking routes, specially created for the ISVW.
- ISVW is the protector of the Utrecht Landscape and is responsible for nature conservation in the local area.
- We have a compost heap on site where we deposit all our organic waste.
- We separate the flushing waste.
Reducing our energy consumption: For an overview of our energy consumption, excluding gas and electricity consumption. In addition to the scope of the following measures:
- We only use low consumption lamps (mainly LED) and many sensors and timers for lighting.
- Lighting goes dark at night.
- In most of the hotel rooms an energy saving is used. Only when the camera is present can electrical devices be used.
- High efficiency central heating boilers.
- No use of minibars.
- From March 2023, solar panels on both hotel wings for electricity.
Wellbeing & Safety
- The ISVW ensures the safety of its personnel and the improvement of working conditions and well-being at work.
- We strive for sustainable cooperation with colleagues.
