Peripatos

'Education is the best thing you can leave to a person.'

The word peripatos comes from the Greek and literally means “walkway” or “covered walking place”. In ancient times, it referred to a colonnade where people could walk and converse, sheltered from the sun and rain. It was precisely in such an environment that a tradition of thinking and philosophising while walking and discussing emerged. The name of the philosophical school founded by Aristotle—the Peripatetic school—is also derived from this word. The name refers not only to the physical place where he taught his pupils, but also to his teaching method. Aristotle often taught while walking, with dialogue and inquiry at the centre.
