The unique location of our business, ISVW, makes a major contribution to our success. Surrounded by nature on the beautiful Leusderheide, we have been welcoming guests for more than 100 years. We hope to continue doing so for many decades to come. This is very important to us and, partly because of the nature of our business, Corporate Social Responsibility is high on our agenda.


We believe this goes hand in hand with excellent hospitality. That is why we invest in facilities that make our hotel, restaurant and meeting rooms better and greener. In our investments, we pay attention to the environment and society. Sustainable business means, to us, preserving the impact of our activities on the environment and making a positive contribution to people inside and outside our organisation.


Sustainability Statement

Raising our guests’ awareness:

  • We meet our guests’ needs while working together towards a better world. During their stay, our guests can also do their part by making conscious choices.
  • We prefer electronic communication (email, quotations, invoices, digital smartboards).
  • Guests can use a card to indicate whether their bed linen needs changing.
  • Since July 2021, we have been a partner of Hotels for Trees. You can choose not to have your room cleaned temporarily in exchange for a tree. See https://hotelsfortrees.com/nl/resultaten/ to find out which hotels participate and how many trees each hotel has helped make possible.
  • Bathroom towels are changed only at the guest’s request; an information card is provided in the room.
  • We encourage our guests to use public transport by offering bicycle rental, charging points for electric cars, information about the OV-fiets and bus route 19 from Amersfoort station, with a bus stop on our own grounds.
  • We serve several organic / Fairtrade products at breakfast, lunch and dinner, including tea and coffee, milk, cold cuts and other toppings, bread, wine, cheeses and fruit juices.
  • We also offer a range of seasonal products and several local products.
  • There is always a varied selection of vegetarian dishes at every meal.


Our employees’ knowledge:

  • To increase our employees’ sense of responsibility for the environment, each employee receives several learning opportunities about sustainability throughout the year. It all starts at the beginning. 
  • By implementing work instructions.
  • By continuously improving ourselves.


Improving the quality of our operations through awareness:

  • We aim to purchase sustainable products and services through active cooperation with responsible suppliers. We strive to help our suppliers reduce their negative impact (fewer deliveries, less packaging materials, etc.). Most of our suppliers have signed a sustainability statement to contribute.


We aim to reduce our CO2 emissions by taking various measures:

  • To monitor and control our emissions, we conduct a CO2 analysis. This includes collecting information, calculating greenhouse gas emissions and drawing up an action plan.
  • We ask our suppliers to deliver as sustainably as possible.
  • Whenever possible, we prefer to work with local suppliers.
  • We recommend that our guests use bus line 19 from Amersfoort station to ISVW (bus stop on the estate).
  • We have approximately 180 solar panels for hot water supply and electricity generation.
  • We are a Climate Protection partner: we contribute to CO2 compensation through the ISVW programme newspaper.
  • You can adopt a tree that we plant on our own grounds.


We also help reduce the release of chemical substances by using:

  • Environmentally certified paper (toilet paper, flipchart paper, placemats, letterhead and envelopes, hand towels, napkins, etc.).
  • Biodegradable dishwasher detergents, hand soap, shampoo and shower gel.


 Examples of our contribution to environmental conservation:

  • In December 2018, we planted more than 100 trees and shrubs on our own grounds by organising an ‘adopt a tree’ campaign. This campaign is still running, with approximately 10–15 trees and shrubs added each year.
  • In 2021 and 2022, we planted 1,000 young trees and hedges, ordered through Heg & Landschap, which is in turn subsidised by the French Yves Rocher Foundation.
  • In 2023, we installed solar panels to generate electricity.
  • Our kitchen has been gas-free since August 2022.
  • We have beehives on our grounds.
  • Installing approximately 50 bird nesting boxes on our grounds in partnership with Stichting Philadelphia.
  • There are various walking routes specially created for ISVW.
  • ISVW is a protector of Utrechts Landschap and supports nature conservation in the local area.
  • We have a compost heap on the grounds where we deposit all our green waste.
  • We separate our waste.


 Reducing our energy consumption:

  • We use only low-energy lighting (mainly LED) and many sensors and timers for our lighting.
  • Most of the hotel rooms use an energy-saving system. Electrical appliances can only be used when the room card is inserted in the energysaver.
  • High-efficiency central heating boilers.
  • No minibars.
  • Since March 2023, solar panels have been installed on both hotel wings to generate electricity.


 Wellbeing & Safety

  • ISVW is committed to the safety of its staff and to improving working conditions and wellbeing at work.
  • We strive for a sustainable working relationship with our colleagues.


Our local surroundings

Landgoed ISVW contributes to our society by supporting local organisations. We also regard caring for our natural surroundings as a social responsibility. Examples of our commitment to the community include:

  • Guests can learn about the history, culture and nature of the surrounding area through brochures and books.
  • There are several cultural walking routes starting at ISVW, including the route to Kamp Amersfoort with QR codes.
  • We donate our empty ink cartridges to Stichting Beeldgestuurde Behandelingen van Kanker.
  • We support Kamp Amersfoort.
  • We sponsor various charitable activities run by both Lions Club Leusden and Lions Club Amersfoort.
  • We sponsor Impala (Leusden Gymnastics Club).
  • We are Friends of the Red Cross.
  • We are a friend of Utrechts Landschap.


Green Globe certification

Landgoed ISVW is certified with the Green Globe certification. Green Globe is a worldwide certification programme for sustainable travel and tourism. It focuses on economic, social and environmental responsibility. Audits are carried out through inspections. It is a highly international certification with members in around 90 countries. It contributes to local nature and environmental protection and to the wellbeing of the local population.
