About us

In 1916, the International School of Philosophy was founded in Amersfoort as a free space for exploring worldviews and ways of life. In the years that followed, various prominent (international) thinkers appeared at ISVW, including Berlage and Emmanuel Levinas. An impressive list that makes clear that the history of ISVW is the history of philosophy in the 20th and 21st centuries. Still relevant after 110 years

Thousands of interested visitors have found their way to ISVW over the years and enjoyed programmes, conferences and symposia. We offer programmes, courses and summer schools during weekends and holiday weeks, introductory and professional training, corporate training, topical debates with social organisations, and training for government and politics. With the best contemporary thinkers, the mission of our philosophical institute is still going strong after more than 110 years!

Maintained through private funding

ISVW is a social organisation that receives no public funding. Our income comes partly from renting facilities to third parties and providing courses and training for businesses and government organisations. All income from the conference hotel supports the practice of philosophy.

Landgoed ISVW has been a place for thinkers since 1916. With our educational institute, hotel, meeting rooms, restaurant, bar, lounge and grounds surrounded by beautiful nature, we are a place where wonderful ideas and peace come together.
