‘Justice is essential both for individual freedom and for the social life of a community’

J.D. Reiman jr. (18..-1957), a tea merchant from Amersfoort, was part of a group that wanted to organise a conference in 1915 to discuss the lack of a ‘sense of spiritual unity’. This led to plans to establish an ‘Academy for Higher Wisdom’. Frederik van Eeden and L.E.J. Brouwer became involved, and the discussions took place at Van Eeden’s Walden colony. Ultimately, this led to the establishment of ISVW in 1916, with the aim of ‘creating a centre for the deepening of views on life and the world’.
